Kathleen Denis NOAPS Best of America Exhibition in Cincinnati

Artist: Kathleen Denis

Title: Warmth of the Sun

Size: 14" x 11"

Medium: Oil on Panel

Congratulations to Kathleen Denis for winning the "Best Impressionism" award, and a gift card to Wholesale Frame, at the National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society (NOAP) Best of America Exhibition in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Her painting “Warmth of the Sun” is inspiring on many accounts.  The painting was made in Key West Florida just before hurricane Irma.  While there is still hope of its survival, Kathleen notes how “this demonstrates the value in capturing scenes that may no longer exist.”  Scheduled to attend the exhibition in person, her trip was canceled due to her mother going on hospice just days before.  With the passing of Kathleen’s mother, the award was just a little sweeter. “I felt like it was a little ‘kiss’ from my mom.” Thank you for sharing your story and your beautiful art work. Wishing you and your family all the best.

However, Hines was a New York artist through and through.  It’s where he summoned his energy and creative spirit. He was extremely prolific and although recognized at times for his work, he was not after the fame or glory.

If only for a little while, my advice is to switch to a new medium, find a new surface to work on, or just change it up. Find what works for you! Since I know many out there are already working in watercolor, find something else to challenge your routine. Maybe it’s a giant marker, a hunk of charcoal, or fresh pastels, but ultimately a new material will force you to learn a new trick or two.
