Surface sets the tone for Chris Ivers.  Inspired by nightlife, store fronts, and the glow of light among darkness, Chris experiments with texture and pastel to achieve unique atmospheres.  Featured in the December 2018 Artists Magazine her technique for translating photographs into pastel artworks is laid out in 11 steps.  Her history in the advertising world gave Chris a background in SLR photography, computer editing in Photoshop, and a keen eye for color. Attune to details, she color corrects her computer screen almost every three months, but color alone is not what sets her work apart. The lettering and text within many works are a noteworthy feature.  Chris’s hand for text harkens back to her time as a professional hand letter painter, including painting the sides of trucks, and can only come with experience and patience.

Inspired, encouraged and challenged in the right direction by fellow artists and more importantly good friends, Richard McKinley and Claudia Seymour have influenced Ivers throughout her artistic career.  Taking each other’s classes, the teacher as student, and student as teacher is a humbling approach for continuing to grow as artists.  With a backlog of digital photography, and new inspiration headed her way with upcoming travels and workshops, Chris is looking forward to experimenting with new surfaces, including metallic, and completing the many half-finished demos used while teaching workshops. Happy travels Chris and keep up the good work in 2019, we can’t wait to see what you do.  Check out her website http://www.christineivers.com for more details or catch a video or two on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGYnYsshdsQ

He was extremely prolific and although recognized at times for his work, he was not after the fame or glory.
